Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia (file) Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia Saturday urged Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena to renew contracts of agencies that provide free lab tests at Delhi government hospitals and mohalla clinics.
According to a letter from Sisodia to Saxena, the file was sent to the L-G office on December 12. “Contract for lab services in Delhi government hospitals and mohalla clinics ends on December 31, 2022. New contract needs to be signed immediately to enable a new service provider to start working from January 1. It will cause huge inconvenience to the people if there is a gap,” Sisodia wrote.
The L-G House did not respond to messages seeking comment.
Recently, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that people can now avail 450 free tests from Delhi government hospitals and mohalla clinics.
Sisodia said the government has completed all formalities for awarding a new contract. “The file was sent to you on 12-12-2022 to decide whether you would like to differ from the decision of the government and refer the matter to the President under provision to Article 239AA(4). I would urge you to kindly decide the matter soon so that the new service provider could start the work,” the letter stated.
Urging the L-G to clear the file soon, Sisodia said, “In my opinion, the matter related to awarding of lab services is not that rarest of rare cases which should be referred to the President. Since there is very little time left, I would be grateful if you could take a decision on the matter at the earliest.”
Hitting out at Sisodia, Delhi BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana said his letter to the L-G is an attempt to divert attention from the “condemnation” that his letter written yesterday (Friday) received.
“He (Sisodia) said the L-G was interfering in the government’s work by referring to constitutional provisions, but that letter backfired on him and he was condemned everywhere. So today, he used the guise of mohalla clinics to write to the L-G and divert attention from yesterday’s letter. Instead of talking about how mohalla clinic health test labs are selected, he mentioned only the clauses for his rights, which clearly shows he is less worried about clinics and more about his rights.”
