Simply Deli-cious

One week after Smoke House Deli launched at DLF place in Vasant Kunj,it is already hosting houseful evenings. The Deli, unlike its cousin Smoke House Grill at Greater Kailash II,begins the day in time for breakfast. At Rs 750 per person, you can stack your plate with cream cheese bagels, masala omelets, grilled ham and butter scotch pancakes from the counter. And pair your cup of coffee or tea with scones,Danish pastries or biscotti.

The afternoon menu shifts focus to grilled meats, jumbo burgers, pastas and health sandwiches. “Surprisingly, many of our guests are ordering grills and pastas. There have been fewer takers for our burgers. We have introduced various grilled meats with innovative dressings,” says chef Mayank Tiwari. We order a Smoked Lamb Burger (Rs 450) and find that it lives up to the chef’s high claims. Every bite is packed with flavours, the big slab of juicy meat tucked between sheets of wafer-thin cucumber slices and onion rings was delicious and complemented by the aroma of fresh bun.

We tried the Smoke Chicken, fennel and thyme (Rs 150) soup,a refreshing and creamy broth generously laden with smoked chicken chunks. You can pair it with a half whole wheat sandwich for Rs 100 more for a filling meal.

Among pastas,we stumbled on an interesting combination of Wasabi and Saffron Pappardelle (Rs 240) and added smoked trouts and prawns for Rs 80 more. The portion fetched us sheets of pasta in a creamy concoction and the fresh prawns were a highlight of the meal. From the selection of grills, clearly the hot favourite of the season,we picked House Spiced Chicken (Rs 240) and paired it with a side order of grilled vegetables for Rs 110.

The ambience recalls the elegance of an English living room, with pale cream walls and black lamps. Sketches of bookshelves, transistors, fruit baskets adorn the walls and an old-fashioned hand phone on one counter harks back to an earlier era.

Meal for two: Rs 1,500
