Sesa Football Academy made the huge gap in football standards in Goa and the capital evident, toying with Simla Youngs before hammering them 7-1 in their ONGC I-League second division match at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Monday.
In the process,Sesa also became the first team from group B to book a place in the final round of the I-League qualifiers, topping the group with 12 points, having won four of their five games so far. The Goan youngsters were unstoppable and Simla Youngs were clueless through the match in the face of repeated onslaughts from the word go. Sesa continued their impressive form in the tournament, with Israil Gurung beginning the goalspree in the 14th minute.
The local side tried their best to hold Sesa, and managed to keep them quiet for the rest of the first half, cramping their defence and not allowing the Goans any space to attempt to score.
The second half, though, was a completely different affair, with Sesa running circles around Simla Youngs, pumping in six more. Gurung had added three more before the match was over, while Gabriel Fernandes,Gagandeep Singh and Jaiganesh Goltekar chipped in with one goal apiece. Nigerian Ugochukwu Ogbvaka scored the consolation goal for Simla Youngs in the dying minutes. Sesa began their second half rampage seven minutes post break, with Israil finding the back of the net from close range. Gabriel Fernandes made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute and Gagandeep added another one with an impressive long shot from the top of 18 yard box.
Even as Tushar Dev watched his team getting mauled, there was no stopping Clifford Chukwumas boys, with Jaiganesh Goltekar, who has been in prime form for the side, continued his scoring form to make the scoreline 6-0. Gurung completed his hat-trick in the 83rd minute and, though Ugochukwus 20 yard scorcher pulled one back, scored his fourth to seal the deal.
With their qualification confirmed,Sesa play their last league match against Indian National on Wednesday, while ONGC,with 10 points, will be seeking a win,or at least a draw, against New Delhi Heroes to book the remaining spot in the final qualification round to be played in Bangalore. However,a defeat will put them at par with Hindustan FC,with the goal difference then coming into play.
Wednesdays matches: New Delhi Heroes vs ONGC (2 pm),Indian National vs Sesa FA (4.15 pm)
