Cop accused of kidnapping 6 boys after a fight in Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla suspended, departmental probe on

A sub-inspector (SI) posted at the Sarai Rohilla police station in Delhi has been suspended for allegedly kidnapping six boys following a fight in the area last week.

Raja Banthia, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Delhi, said, “The SI has been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been initiated.”

According to the police, on Saturday, a call was received regarding a fight between the boys. The children were supposed to take a train from Sarai Rohilla railway station when the fight broke out.

Officers said the police control room (PCR) officer who responded to the call brought the children to the Sarai Rohilla police station to inquire about the incident. The SI tasked with investigating the matter allegedly tried to threaten the children and asked them to sit in his private vehicle.

The SI allegedly took the children along with another person – the police said he was not an officer – to Ghaziabad, from where he is said to have called up the parents of a child. HE allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 to release him. The officer then took the children to the parking lot of the society in Ghaziabad, where he lived, sources said. It is alleged that while some parents went to get their children.

However, children of other parents who allegedly did not pay the amount were released only late at night

Senior police officers were alerted about the incident on Sunday, after which action was initiated. Facts about the incident are being verified, senior officers said, adding that they are probing the matter.
