A Sub-Inspector of the Delhi Police,at present under suspension,is absconding after he allegedly murdered his 30-year-old domestic help at his house in Vikaspuri,West Delhi,on Wednesday night. Two decades ago,Azad Singh had brought home Ganga Ram,the deceased,who used to be a tea vendor at that time.

A security guard called the Police Control Room at 8 pm after he heard raised voices and shouting from Singhs house in Sunrise Apartments. Ganga Ram was reportedly alone with Singh at that time.

When we reached the spot,we found the house locked from the inside. Singhs wife had gone to meet a lawyer. We broke into the house through the air-conditioner vent and found Ganga Ram lying on the floor in a pool of blood, a senior police officer said. Ram was rushed to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital,where he succumbed to injuries later. The police said he was stabbed thrice in the chest.

Singh is absconding and the police believe he fled the same way they got in,through the air-conditioner vent. The police said that prima facie it does not look like a pre-meditated murder.

Singh is on anti-depressants and is an alcoholic. It looks like the duo had an argument over something and the murder happened in a fit of anger. We have registered a case of murder against him and are probing the case from all angles, a senior police officer said.

The police officials said Singh,a 1977 batch officer,was chowki-in charge of Uttam Nagar in 1990 when he met Ganga Ram.

The police said Singh was suspended from the force in 2000 after a departmental inquiry. One of his sons is a software engineer in Bangalore,while the other is pursuing his graduation.
