Police said five armed men entered businessman Shyam Lal’s cellphone outlet in Gali 35, Raigar Pura around 7.30 pm.
They tied up Lal and three of his staffers and looted Rs 2 crore before fleeing on their two-wheelers. The businessman then made a PCR call and police registered a case of dacoity against the group.
“We have identified the robbers based on the businessman’s statement and we have strong leads on the accused. Efforts are on to nab them,” a senior police officer said.
Police said the second robbery was reported from Gali 37 in Bidan Pura within four hours of the first incident.
According to police, three persons barged into a jewellery workshop around 11.30 pm and shot a worker dead before making off with 700 grams of gold jewellery.
Police said there were three workers in the workshop at the time of the incident. One of the three assailants pointed guns at them while the other two began pocketing the gold jewellery.
One of the workers, Milan Manjhi, tried raising the alarm when one of the robbers shot him in the head at point-blank range.
Police said the three assailants then fled the spot. They are absconding.
Milan was rushed to hospital but he was declared brought dead, an officer said. Police have sent his body for an autopsy and reports are awaited.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Paramaditya said, “We have registered a case of murder and robbery against the three. We are questioning the other two workers to ascertain the identity of the three accused. Investigations are on.”
On Wednesday, residents staged a protest against the robberies. They also blocked roads for a few hours in the two areas where the incidents occurred on Tuesday night.
