Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal to citizens to conduct sting operations to net corrupt policemen has started yielding results.

A person in Mehrauli did a sting of police personnel in Ambedkar Nagar allegedly demanding money from him. The complainant then forwarded the video via WhatsApp to the helpline number, 9910641064.

He also showed the clip to the top brass of the Vigilance department following which three policemen, including the Station House Officer of Ambedkar Nagar police station in southeast Delhi were sent to the district lines.

The action was taken after the Vigilance department found merit in the allegations against the policemen in the preliminary inquiry.

Sources said the man, who allegedly has charges against him, recorded the sting a few months ago after a head constable allegedly demanded money from him for not arresting him in a case.

“The head constable allegedly said the money would go to his superior. Police personnel allegedly threatened that they would implicate him if he did not pay up,” a senior police officer said.

The complainant then forwarded the video via WhatsApp to the vigilance helpline number.

The complainant later met with senior officers of the vigilance unit and lodged a complaint.

“After receiving the complaint, police began their investigation. After substantiating the allegations, the report was forwarded to the district head concerned. The report asked that action be taken against them,” the officer said.
