Sharpshooter of Kala Jatheri gang arrested after gunfire exchange with cops in Najafgarh

The Delhi Police said Suhail, 21, a native of Sonipat in Haryana, has been named in two cases at Jaffarpur Kalan police station.

The Delhi Police arrested a member of the Kala Jatheri gang following an exchange of gunfire in the Najafgarh area Tuesday night in the fourth such operation in less than a month by Special Cell officers. The accused sustained an injury in the incident and was taken to a hospital.

According to the police, Suhail, 21, an active sharpshooter of the Kala Jatheri gang, was going towards Suhera Chowk in Khair village when officers received a tip-off about his location. A native of Sonipat in Haryana, he has been named in two cases pertaining to land grabbing and firing at Jaffarpur Kalan police station.

“As per the input, the accused was to cross the Najafgarh area at about 10.30 pm. He was intercepted at 10.50 pm on the road towards Suhera Chowk, and was asked to surrender,” a police officer said.

According to officers, the accused fired a couple of rounds at the police team in a bid to flee. The police retaliated with two rounds of fire, with one of the bullets hitting Suhail in his right leg. “The accused was taken to Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital and is currently under treatment. He will be questioned post-discharge,” a police officer said.

On June 3, the Delhi Police arrested a sharpshooter belonging to the Himanshu Bhau gang after a brief exchange of fire, four days after he allegedly gunned down a rival gang member in Rohtak. The accused, identified as Deepak Dhankar, 23, a first-time offender, shot at Anil Kumar of the Baba gang 15 times on the directions of gangster Himanshu Bhau, who is based out of the country.

The Special Cell, on May 30, shot dead a sharpshooter of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang named Naveen Kasana, 38, a resident of Ghaziabad, in Hapur. Kasana was accused of murdering Sunil Jain, a businessman in the Farsh Bazaar area of Delhi.

On May 14, officers of the Delhi Police Special Cell had a brief exchange of fire with Sachin aka Golu, the main accused in Jain’s murder, in Hapur but he managed to escape.
