The Central Delhi police arrested two men for allegedly murdering a 62-year-old woman in East Patel Nagar area on October 30 last year. The police said after the murder,the accused fled with cash,including foreign currency,and valuables.
The accused has been identified as Lalit Kamat (26) and Badri Narayan Kamat (32). The police have also recovered 55 Australian dollars from their possession.
Police officials said they were informed about the murder of 62-year-old Rajinder Kaur on October 30 last year. Kaurs husband,Amarjeet Singh Kharbanda,told the police he had left for office in the morning. When he returned home at 7.30 pm,he found the doors of his residence open and the house ransacked.
His wifes body was on the floor. She had been strangulated with a dupatta.
We put a stolen mobile phone under surveillance and found that it was being operated using a stolen SIM card at a factory in Noida. We zeroed in on Kamat there, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central),Jaspal Singh said.
During interrogation,Kamat told the police that he murdered the woman along with accused Badri Narayan and three others. Narayan was arrested from Dashghara village in Noida.
We learnt Narayan worked as a driver with Kaurs husband. He was not verified with the police. Narayan told his accomplices that Kaur was alone at home during most of the day, DCP Singh said.
On October 30,they went to the house and Narayan knocked. Kaur opened the door as she knew him. With the help of his accomplices,he then overpowered her and tied her up,the police said. When Kaur continued to struggle,they strangulated her and fled with cash and valuables,the police added.
