Book fair held at Birla Vidya Niketan
Birla Vidya Niketan held a book fair,organised by Scholastic at the behest of principal Desmond DMonte on September 30 in the school premises. It saw an overwhelming response from students and parents who had come to attend the PTM. A wide range of books from all disciplines of education was displayed,and fiction saw the greatest takers. A lucky draw was organised by the scholastic group for book lovers.
Valedictory Function of Literacy Week
In an inspiring and festive panorama of cultural items held by schools under the Delhi Schools Literacy Project,the students of member schools participated in the annual Valedictory Function of Literacy Week.
The chief guest on the occasion,Professor Govinda,Vice Chancellor,National University of Educational Planning,and Administration and Director,NCERT,gave away the awards and trophies to prize-winning schools during the week,which hosted various events such as recitation,declamation,street theatre,story writing and painting on the themes of literacy,empowerment,adult education,womens education and legal literacy. Speaking on the occasion,the chief guest lauded the efforts of the schools as well as their principals. Congratulating the students on the success of literacy week observed by various schools,Dr Rajni Kumar,honorary advisor and founder of the Delhi Schools Project movement greeted learners and student volunteers in the audience and showered them with praises for projecting relevant social issues. At the presentation of the awards,the MP Mathrani Trophy for Excellence in the Literacy Festival Week in the Southeast Zone was won by Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,for scoring 160 points. The HL Verma Memorial Trophy for Best Street Theatre in the Southeast zone went to Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan.
Birla Vidya Niketan holds Annual Career Fair
Birla Vidya Niketan organised its annual career fair for students of Class XI and XII. Highly informative and covering a wide spectrum of career options,it was conducted by eminent career counselor Mr Jitin Chawla. After the welcome address by academic supervisor Aloka Bose,the inaugural session by Dinesh Varshney,Deputy Dean, focused on various issues related to admissions including new careers and choice of colleges. He also addressed some of the major concerns of the students,including the 100 per cent cut-off and cut-throat competition for much-coveted branded colleges. He emphasised on an intensive and inter-disciplinary approach to academics through extensive reading and adopting a disciplined approach to life. In the second session the students were exposed to a width of career options including vocational and off-beat careers. This was followed by an interaction with a panel of experts from carious institutes,including IIHM,ICSI,AFA and EGE Global. The principal,Desmond DMonte,applauded school counsellor Amrita Singh for organising the career fair.
Book Week at springdales school,Dhaula Kuan
On the occasion of Book Week,Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,hosted a grand exhibition that was inaugurated by Dr Rajni Kumar,chairperson,Springdales Education Society,in the presence of Jyoti Bose,principal,Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,the staff,members of the management committee,and students. The exhibition also showcased projects that the students had prepared as part of their summer vacation homework. Earlier,the book week was inaugurated by Ashish Shah,Deputy Coordinator,Environment Education unit,Centre for Science and Environment. The inauguration took place as a special assembly,where students staged various presentations. It was followed by a prize giving ceremony for avid readers of 2010. This year,the book week focused on the theme Saving the Environment – Our Only Hope to promote awareness among students on the importance of preserving our bio diversity,the need to identify problems related to the environment and ways to take corrective action. Speaking on the occasion,Ashish Shah said,The best way for the youth to learn about the environment is by doing something for it. During the entire week,an array of literary activities,such as poetry writing,poster-making,essay writing,quiz and making environmental rakhis,was conducted. Students of Class VI to XII participated enthusiastically. Imagination and creativity were the keywords in the range of activities planned for them. The exhibition was highly appreciated by members of the managing committee and other distinguished guests. Parents accompanied by the students thronged the venue and were overjoyed to see the works on display. Bookstalls put up by various publishers gave students an opportunity to purchase books of their choice. The number of enthusiastic and excited visitors spoke volumes on the success of the event.
Debate competition at cambridge school
Cambridge School,Indirapuram,participated in the XII AC Deb Memorial Inter-school English Debate competition on September 24,2011,held at Raja Rammohan Roy Academy,Dehradun. Before an august gathering,debaters of many schools from Dehradun and the NCR region had a lively debate on Indian democracy is a boon. Arathi Nair and Swapnil Srivastava of Class X spoke for and against the motion respectively. Arathi Nair secured the first runner-up award while Swapnil secured the second runner-up position. Our team bagged the first position and was awarded the winners trophy. Kalyani Roy,secretary,SAE,appreciated the students for their confidence and effort.
Tagore Int’l School wins Accolades at SSCMUN
Eight students of Tagore International School,Vasant Vihar participated in a Model United Nations,SSCMUN hosted by St. Stephens School,Chandigarh from 7 October to 9 October. The conference had gruelling debates,discussions and negotiations between the “leaders” of different “countries. The participants were able to come up with solutions and consequently resolutions to various International problems in their respective committees,that is,General Assembly,Human Rights Council and Security Council. Amlan Panda(General Assembly) and Projjol Banerjee(Human Rights Council) representing the Russian Federation received the BEST DELEGATE Awards in their respective committees while Shikhar Garg(Human Rights Council) representing Mexico received a SPECIAL MENTION. The delegation of the Russian Federation comprising of Amlan Panda(General Assembly),Projjol Banerjee(Human Rights Council) and Sanya Chhikara(Security Council) got the BEST DELEGATION award.
Birla Vidya Niketan marks Foundation Day
Birla Vidya Niketan celebrated its 28th Foundation Day and annual prize distribution programme on September 20,2011. An invocation to goddess Saraswati was followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp of knowledge. The principals report culminated in a visual presentation of the activities and achievements of the school,accompanied by melodious strains of the choir. The management took great pride in felicitating 64 students with scholarships and medals for their outstanding performance in academics. The chief guest,eminent parliamentarian and actor Raj Babbar,praised BVN as one of the premier institutions of Delhi and commended the meritorious students for their excellent academic performance. He also congratulated principal Desmond DMonte for the high-level of scholastic achievement and value-based education provided by the school. The audience was mesmerised by the breathtaking performance of the students Panchtatva a ballet on the fusion of the five elements,and a choreography on Rabindranath Tagores Upagupta,a befitting tribute to one of the greatest literary figures of our time on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary. Commenting on the cosmopolitan educational environment students are exposed to in this day and age,the schools education advisor,Asha Nair,exhorted the students to be proud citizens as only a good Indian can be a better global citizen. The programme was appreciated by everybody.
