Road run at Navy Children School
In keeping with the spirit of sportsmanship among students,the annual event of Road Run was held at Navy Children School,Chanakyapuri,on October 30. The race was flagged off by Cmde A Ghosal (VSM),commanding officer,INS India. Students,along with many enthusiastic parents,ran despite the chilly morning air and covered a distance of 5 km . It is noteworthy to mention that the event is in its fourth year and the number of participants has been increasing by the year,with a special focus on encouraging more girls to participate. Winners in competitions in different age group categories were honoured with medals by the chief guest,who also appreciated the efforts put in by participants and encouraged them further.
Interclass quiz at St Marks Public Sr Sec School
An interclass quiz on World of Art for classes IX and X was conducted in St Marks Sr Sec Public School,Meera Bagh. Six teams from different sections participated,and there were four members in each team. The members of the winning team were Kritika (X A),K P Jayaram (X A),Jyotsna Arora (IX A) and Siddharth Singh (IX A).
Inter-zonal championship at Mount Carmel School
The Directorate of Education organised the Inter-zonal Senior Volleyball Tournament 2010,which saw widespread participation. In this tournament,28 zones from places across Delhi participated. Mount Carmel School,Anand Niketan,from Zone 19 bagged the first position in the senior category (U-19). The finals were held on September 10,between Zone 19 and Zone 13.Mount Carmel School won in three straight sets by 3-0. Besides scholarships,the team members received Rs 1,000 as cash prize along with a trophy.

Kapil Sibal attends science expo at SD Public School
SD Public School Pitampura hosted the CBSE National Science Exhibition on October 24 and 25. The event was inaugurated by Vineet Joshi,CBSE chairman,on October 24. Minister of Human Resource and Development Kapil Sibal,along with CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi,graced the valedictory function on October 25. As many as 156 CBSE affiliated schools from places across the country as well as foreign climes showcased 164 exhibits during the two-day event. About 492 students,along with their teachers,worked diligently to make the mega event possible. The exhibits had already cleared the regional level,and qualified for the national level. Twenty teams,which have been selected at the CBSE national level,are now eligible to take part in the
Jawaharlal Nehru Science Exhibition for children,to be organised by NCERT in November. Various agencies such as NDPL,Vigyan Prasar,National Bal Bhawan,Mahatma Gandhi Institute and World Kids Foundation had put up stalls at the school on the occasion.
RD Rajpal Public School organises Book Week
The students of RD Rajpal Public School,Dwarka,enjoyed a veritable learning experience provided by the Book Week Celebrations from September 13 to September 16. It was a wonderful sight,watching students browse through a variety of books showcased in the book fair.
Activities such as essay writing,bookmarking,book covering,poetry composition,debates,enactment of famous literary characters and word games were held to keep the children engaged. Students read out book reviews in the assembly and narrated stories they had read. They were awarded with JK Rowling stars,aimed at enhancing their reading habit. The highlight of the event was a presentation on cartoon-making by famous cartoonist Ajit Narayan,who enthralled the students by giving tips on drawing facial expressions and making sketches creative. Besides being a true learning experience for everyone,it provided a very good time for whoever attended the workshop. A calligraphy workshop on enabling students to write neatly was also organised. Principal Alka Kshatriya appreciated the efforts of the children and awarded certificates to the ones who had won contests during the week.
