Theatre competition in St Marys,Dwarka
St Marys School,Dwarka organised an inter-house theatre competition on the July 24. Various Houses showcased plays like Everything in Its Proper Time,Polka Polka,A Dollar,and Ebony Scrooge. The competition exposed the students to various aspects of theatre production like direction,casting,props,etc. Gaurav Pahava,a well-known theatre director,Anil Dagar,Assistant Manager,Circulation,The Indian Express,and Ani Mary Algoo,an education consultant in New York,were the judges of the competition. Shakti House was awarded the first prize in the competition.
Eco seminar at Hillwoods Academy
Hillwoods Academy in its endeavor to disseminate the message of environmental conservation,organised an eco seminar on August 4 on the school premises. Talks by eminent personalities and environmental specialists were the highlight of the event. Dr B C Sabat,Senior Scientific Officer,Dept of Environment,was one of the speakers.
Sajeev T K,from Bombay Natural History Society,also spoke on biodiversity species of flora and fauna found in India.
Rakesh Khatri,a renowned environmentalist and Executive Director Nature Foundation,conducted a workshop on making natural habitats for sparrows with clay coconut and bamboo. Suhana,Senior Coordinator of Eco Root Foundation,divided students into groups of 25 for the nest-making activity and hand painting. On the occasion,Green Page an environmental newsletter was released.
Inter-school shooting competition
Delhi State Rifle Association conducted Delhi State Inter-School Shooting Competition from August 3 to 5. Around 104 students from various schools participated in the competition. The prize ceremony was held on August 5 at Tuglakabad Shooting Range. The chief guest was Madhup Tiwari,IPS,Additional Commissioner (Licensing) and Jaspal Rana,ace shooter and recipient of Arjuna Award. Enya Rathore,Class IX student at Sanskriti School,won the gold medal in the sub-junior 10m Air Pistol (women) category. Tavashya Kumar,Class VI student at Sanskriti School,won the silver medal in sub-junior 10m Air Pistol (men) category.
Exhibition on diversity at Springdales School
An Exhibition highlighting diversity was inaugurated by Rajni Kumar,Chairperson,Springdales Education Society, on July 29 in the presence of school principal Dr Jyoti Bose,the staff,members of the managing committee and students as a takeoff on the Youth Leadership Summit titled We are one,but we are many held at Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan on July 12 and 13. The theme of the Summit was Appreciating diversity in school,society and nation. Apart from lectures,workshops and Power-Point Presentations,the event witnessed active participation from leading schools across the Capital.
All students took part in the events highlighting the various dimensions of diversity. The events included literary activities like bookmark making,book jacket and poster making,poetry and essay writing on themes such as Religion/caste/creed Why do they divide us,The Equation of balance between unity and diversity,and,Diversity in School. The events gave students a platform to showcase their linguistic and creative skills. It was a week full of fun and learning which culminated with the exhibition.
Birla Vidya Niketan hosts Utsav-2012
Birla Vidya Niketan,Pushp Vihar,recently held Utsav2012,a spectrum of inter-school competitions with great fanfare. The event saw a huge participation from schools all over Delhi and the NCR in a variety of competitions ranging from Indian and Western music to electronics, dance,dramatics,astronomy,physics,computer,art,commerce and public speaking in Hindi and English.
The five-day gala show promoted healthy competition amongst students with a lot of camaraderie and bonhomie. Gyan Bharati School was the proud recipient of the overall Utsav trophy. The host team won many individual prizes but did not compete for the team trophy,which as per norms,was passed on to the next best team.
Principal Minakshi Kushwaha and Vice Principal Desmond D Monte congratulated all the participating schools for making the festival a grand success.
