Inter-school math contest organised at Springdales

The Pi Club of Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,organised the inter-school mathematics contest on October 13,2011. Over 130 students from 15 renowned schools participated in various events,which consisted of Mathematics quiz for Classes XI and XII,Sudoku competition for Class X,poster-making competition for Class IX and mathematical rangoli for Classes VI- VIII. Dr Reeta Malhotra,associate professor,Kamla Nehru College; Dr S C Arora,former Head Of Mathematics department,Delhi University,and Indrani Parker,a renowned graphic designer,graced the occasion. The host school received the first prize in the rangoli and poster-making competition. Students of Doon Public school,Paschim Vihar,emerged as the winners of the Sudoku competition. Students of DPS-RK Puram were the winners of the mathematical quiz while St Mary’s School walked away with overall winner’s trophy. The senior executive members of the club presented a powerpoint presentation on probability and Bayes theorem.

RD Rajpal students visit Godhuli Old Age Home

It was a proud moment for the students of RD Rajpal Public School,when they visited the Godhuli Old Age Home located in Sector 2,Dwarka. A group of 30 students were guided on the visit by the principal,Alka Kshatriya,along with a team of four teachers. The students were very excited and eager to visit the senior citizens housed there. It turned out to be a remarkable experience for everyone. The students presented a number of programmes,which started with a dance ‘Saraswati Vandana’ followed by bhajans,‘Guru Vandana’,melodious tunes by the school orchestra,street plays on child labour,poems,dohas and a magnificent dance on ‘Vande Mataram’. The senior citizens enjoyed witnessing the programme,and applauded encouragingly. They were thrilled and their hearts were full of happiness for the children. The respectable members of the old-age home also contributed wholeheartedly to the programme by singing bhajans and reciting self-written poems. The happiness on their faces was a feeling that all of us shall cherish. The members blessed all the children and praised their sincere efforts. They appreciated the school authorities for encouraging the students to share and care for the elderly. They also expressed their desire to have more such interactions and programmes in the future. The principal presented a token of appreciation,and wished a very senior member best wishes on her birthday. It turned out to be a very joyous moment for her to be with the children on her birthday. The students were offered chocolates and the most cherished blessings by the senior people living there. The students also presented them cards with special messages written on them as a mark of respect for the elderly citizens.

Function to honour teachers at DAV Public School

DAV Public School,Kailash Hills,East of Kailash,New Delhi,held the annual Guru Vandana Chhatra Abhinandan function organised by Bharat Vikash Parisad,Greater Kailash,New Delhi,on October 12,2011. Teachers Sunita Mehta,Jyoti Khanna,Rekha Sethi,Sunita Hom Chaudhary,Upa Biswas,Seema Bagi,Sunita Sumby and Dayanand Sharma received the ‘Vishisht Shikshika Samman’. In the student category,five all-rounders — namely Yogesh Chaudhary,Rachna Arora,Mayank. Aditya Narayan and Bhupender — were blessed by members of the Parishad. BVP President Agarwal administered an oath on shunning drugs and narcotics,and made everyone profess their love for their parents,teacher and motherland. School principal Ira Khanna spoke on the guru-shishya parampara and thanked the BVP for motivating everone. Khanna appreciated their work in promoting moral,spiritual and patriotic values among the youth of the nation.

Debate competition at Vasant Valley School

On October 14,Vasant Valley School,Vasant Kunj,organised an ‘On-the-spot inter-school’ debate competition,which was co-sponsored by Aaj Tak news channel. In the first round of the prestigious event,around 33 schools from Delhi participated,and only 12 teams qualified for the next round. The VIS team — comprising Class X students Jayant Bhardwaj,Gursimran Kaur and Amit Kumar — did the school proud by securing the 1st runner-up trophy in the final round. The host team,Vasant Valley School,was declared the winners,but as a gesture of goodwill,the trophy was awarded to the first runner-up. Jayant Bhardwaj was adjudged the best speaker twice during two rounds of the event. On October 15,the entire event was telecast on Aaj Tak News Channel,during which the winners shared their amazing experiences. The school principal,Mrinalini Kaura,was overwhelmed by this achievement and congratulated the beaming prize winners. It was truly a memorable victory that would be cherished fondly in times to come.
