Samresh to focus more on Olympic events

“The Olympics are on the top of my mind. But for that I will have to do well in the World Championships,that will get me a quota place” says Jung. But with less than stellar performances in the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games — where he finished without a medal,Jung knows he needs to regain some of his form 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games ¿ where he won five gold medals.

While Jung did take part in Olympic events like the 10m air pistol event,his performances were poor. He had even failed to qualify for the national team for the Commonwealth Games in these events,only making the cut in the non Olympic categories. That in turn meant he had focused only on those categories leaving him out of practice in others.

“In the recent nationals I admit I was not performing well. But that was also because I have really not had much practice recently. Before the games the Karni Singh Range was closed. Even before that,I had very little practice in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games. I had hardly trained in the Olympic categories. So getting as much practice as possible will be equally important,” said Jung

But the going will still be tough considering he still faces the absence of a coach. “I am still without a coach and the process of looking for one hasn’t been going well. The money factor is one of the many considerations I have to think about.”

With the intention of getting some much needed match practice,Jung says he will be competing in the upcoming National Games in Ranchi. “ These games are very important for me. I will be representing Himachal Pradesh,there. I will be taking part in all the pistol categories. The next few months are going to be crucial. But the fact of the matter is that I have had periods when everything goes well for me,so I know that it is not impossible to return to my peak.”
