Safety first: HC wants schools shut or shifted

The bench asked the authorities concerned to “expeditiously” decide on the issue of recognition to be given and closure of the remaining unrecognised schools.

The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi government, Delhi Development Authority and civic bodies to ensure immediate closure or shifting of schools that are located on premises which may pose a threat to the safety of students.

The bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice R S Endlaw also asked the authorities concerned to “expeditiously” decide on the issue of recognition to be given and closure of the remaining unrecognised schools.

“We direct the Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi government, municipal corporations, New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Development Authority to ensure immediate closure/shifting of those unrecognised schools which are housed in any premises that can pose a threat to the safety of children,” the court said.
