RPI throws weight behind Congress

The Republican Party of India has decided to join hands with the Congress.

The Republican Party of India has decided to join hands with the Congress.

In a declaration on Saturday at the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee office, party president Ram Das Athawale said his party has withdrawn all four of its candidates contesting in Delhi so that the “secular vote does not get divided between the RPI and the Congress”.

In a dig at the BSP and Mayawati,Athawale said that while both his party and the BSP started out with the aim of uplifting the Dalits, the BSP had now become more pro-Brahmin. “Mayawati now only works for the Brahmins,so we will request the Dalits in Delhi to vote for the Congress,” he said.

DPCC president J P Aggarwal welcomed Athawale’s decision.
