Attending talks on art, listening to dramatised readings or getting a book signed by a visiting author is considered fashionable today. Dedicating an evening to poetry remains a niche option — except that Nashist,an evening with three poets,Sarwajeet ‘Sarv’,Tarranum Riaz and Lavlin Thadani,at the India Habitat Centre this week turned into a houseful show. The event was organised by Impresario Asia.

Riaz could not attend the event but Sarv, who writes mostly in Hindi and Punjabi, provoked questions on life, identity and existence through poems such as Nadi Aur Hum ,Khwaaishein, and Main Kaun Hun. An audience comprising poet Laxmi Shankar Vajpayee and theatre artists like Sarita Vohra applauded as these verses probed existential questions.

Thadani’s recitations included Maqbara, describing the relationship between a rose and a vase, and Waiting from Sunrise to Sunset, about the selfless relationship between a mother and child. These were sentimental, and successfully established a “soulful connect” with the audience.
