The countdown to Sex and the City 2 has begun, but even before you catch the ageing fab four in their dishy wardrobe outfitted by Patricia Field, the wannabe Carrie Bradshaws can pick up the exact wardrobe at Kitsch,Priya and Charu Sachdevs plush store at DLF Emporio Mall,Delhi. The sisters have launched the latest collection of Halston Heritage from the American design house Halston. Bringing a slice of 70s New York to the sweltering Delhi were coltish models who sashayed around the 2,300 square feet store in flirty inky-blue dresses,a gorgeous black jumpsuit,a shorter version of Halstons jersey jumpsuit all suited for the high-flying Studio 54 (New Yorks famous disco) clientele that the late Roy Halston Frowick usually designed for.
The clothes are fun, funky and glamorous. Halston, the popular face of New York party circuit, designed for glamorous ladies like Elizabeth Taylor who would step out in the day in high heels, walking 30 miles in them, smiled Charu, looking svelte in Alberta Ferreti trousers and Marc Jacobs shirt.
Its a legacy that its present owner, entertainment czar Harvey Weinstein, has been trying hard to hold on to. Its also probably the reason why Sarah Jessica Parker (or Carrie Bradshaw,if you please) has been appointed the creative director of Halston Heritage, the more affordable range of the brand. Parker, with her mass appeal and swish tastes,is expected to bring in some of her on-screen panache to the brand, which has seen better times in its four decades in business.
Halston,by himself was an institution in the 70s,with his larger-than-life-designs,his coterie of celebrity friends and clientele that included Jacqueline Kennedy,Andy Warhol,Gregory Peck,Bianca Jagger,Liza Minnelli and his fashion forward move to license his creativity. By the time his protracted drug abuse and inability to meet deadlines threw him out of his own company in 1984,Halston was already a design legend, thanks to his irreverent take on fashion.
For the nouveau riche Indian clientele, more familiar with their Christian Diors than their Christian Lacroix, its a chance now to do a Bradshaw and wear chic clothes white cowl necked dresses and iconic jumpsuits to work. In India ,the SATC 2 collection starts at Rs 20,000.
