The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced that first-time MLA Rekha Gupta will take oath as Delhi’s new chief minister, becoming only the fourth woman to hold the position. Wishes poured in from across the political spectrum for the 50-year-old advocate, with Union ministers and political rivals extending their regards.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated Gupta, backing the BJP government under her leadership to “work day and night to fulfill the hopes and expectations with which the mothers and sisters of Delhi have blessed the BJP”. The senior BJP leader also reposed full faith that she will “work with dedication in the direction of the resolution taken by Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji to make Delhi one of the top capitals of the world”.

 

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal congratulated Gupta, adding he hoped that she will fulfill the promises made to the people of Delhi. “We will support her in every act she undertakes for the development and betterment of Delhi’s people,” the former Delhi CM posted on X.

Congratulating Gupta, outgoing CM and AAP leader Atishi said it was a matter of happiness that Delhi will be led by a woman. ” I hope that the promises made to the people of Delhi will be fulfilled. You will get the full support of Aam Aadmi Party for the development of Delhi,” she added.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said that Gupta will “write a new chapter in Delhi,” according to news agency ANI.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated Gupta on being elected the leader of the BJP legislative party in Delhi. “I firmly believe that under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and with his efforts, Delhi will become the developed capital of developed India,” the Union Defence Minister posted on X.

Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari too echoed the sentiment, extending his heartfelt regards. ” I am confident that under the leadership of Rekha ji, Delhi will be the pride of the country in its progress,” Gadkari wrote on X.
