Reddy To Go Solo

When this young Kuchipudi dancer makes her solo debut on April 8,she would be carrying forward an illustrious legacy. Bhavana Reddy,20,the younger daughter of Padma Bhushan Raja Reddy and Kaushalya Reddy, has accompanied her parents’ dance troupe in several group shows over the years, and is finally ready to strike out on her own.

Understandably, she has giant butterflies in her stomach. “I am nervous. There is a lot of pressure as the audience expects a lot from me,” says Bhavana. “A lot of physical and mental practice is required to dance, but once I start,I enjoy every moment and get involved with my character.”

She draws much of her repertoire from Indian mythology and counts the “mischievous” Krishna,Shiva and Prahlad among her favourite characters.

Bhavana, whose elder sister,Yamini,29,is already a critically acclaimed dancer,is said to have inherited her father’s dynamism and the style of Radha Reddy.

The performance will be held at Kamani Auditorium,Mandi House,on April 8. Contact: 23076640
