An officer of the Government Railway Police (GRP) was shot dead allegedly by his wife over a family dispute in Gurgaon on Thursday.

According to a senior police officer, their son has alleged that the officer, Rajbir, shot at his wife Sarita during a scuffle and she overpowered him and shot him dead.

“The woman is in hospital as she was injured in the arm during the incident. The role of their son is being probed and an FIR has been registered. The weapon used in the offence was a country-made pistol,” said the police officer.

“The wife stated that she was initially shot after which she shot in an act of self-defence. However, the victim’s brother has claimed that the son and wife killed him. We are probing if the gun belonged to the accused or the victim,” he added.

In his complaint, lodged at Sector 10 police station which names the wife and son as accused, Rajbir’s brother Satbir accused the victim’s son Yash Yadav of conspiring with his mother to commit the offence.

Satbir also said in his complaint the dispute was over the fact that Yash was in an illicit relationship which his father was against.

“Rajbir disowned Yash by dispossessing him of all property. Since then, Yash and Sarita have had frequent disagreements and conflicts. He had told me that Sarita and Yash wanted his wealth and they would do something against him. My brother had stopped coming home regularly for the past few months. On October 31, Rajbir returned to his home in Sector-10 A and informed me that he had been called by his father-in-law, who expressed concern that Yash was threatening to shoot his uncle,” he said.

Later, the complainant said Rajbir’s father-in-law and his brother-in-law informed them around 6.30 am on November 2 that Rajbir had been shot.

“It was revealed that Rajbir had called Yash’s wife Nisha to his house on November 1 for Karva Chauth. Upon her arrival, a quarrel broke out between Sarita and Nisha, which led my brother to send his daughter-in-law back to her village. Following this, Sarita and Yash conspired and executed a plan to murder Rajbir. They committed the crime by shooting him,” he alleged.
