A day after pictures of a large crack on the Haiderpur flyover in Delhi’s Outer Ring Road were widely shared on social media and people complained of traffic jams, the Public Works Department (PWD) on Tuesday claimed that the cracks do not pose any ‘threat’ to the structural integrity of the flyover and that they were repaired within a few hours.

“The cracks developed on the wearing course of the stretch in front of the Haiderpur Badli Metro station. These cracks appeared due to minor settlement of the road crust caused by the ongoing box-pushing technology work under the flyover for the construction of the Mukarba Chowk underpass,” said a senior PWD official.

Officials said the cracks do not pose any threat to the structural integrity of the flyover. “Such cracks are common during box-pushing activity and have been observed in the past as well… They are limited to the filled-up portion above the stretch,” the official added.

The Haiderpur flyover, located in North West Delhi, is used daily by thousands of vehicles. “The road was repaired within a few hours of receiving the complaint, and traffic movement was restored to normal,” the official said.
