The echoes of the Dhaula Kuan rape reached Parliament on Wednesday, with several BJP MPs demanding Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s resignation.

Led by Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj and senior party leader L K Advani,a number of BJP MPs raised slogans near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi inside Parliament House premises, demanding immediate arrests in the gangrape case.

Talking to reporters,Advani said: “The law-and-order situation in Delhi is turning out to be worrisome.” He added security of women in the national capital was a serious problem and the Delhi administration should pay attention to the issue.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has come under fire from the the Northeast Support Centre and Helpline for not acting promptly on the night the 30-year-old Mizoram woman was abducted near Dhaula Kuan and gangraped.

“The PCR received a call just ten minutes after the woman was pulled into the tempo. If they had alerted the other PCR vans in the area, the crime could have been averted,” said Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of the group.

The Mizoram government has, meanwhile, shifted the victim to an undisclosed location. “She has been asked to stay in the city since she may be required to testify in court or identify the suspects,” said Chandra.

Angry that a week had passed without any arrests in the case,Chandra along with people from at least five other NGOs held a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday. “The Delhi government must issue guidelines to BPO companies so that they take the security of their female staff more seriously,” said Rituparna Borah from Assam.

The protesters were also joined by members of LGBT groups. “When we work for gay rights,it is governed by the belief that everybody should be treated equal irrespective of their sexual preference. Just like gays face trauma due to the stigma attached,a rape victim goes through a lot of trauma. We thought we must do something for her,” said Sumiran Sharma of The YP Foundation, which works for gay rights.
