Praying for a visa

The temple was established in 2007. The priestess,Rekha Jain,says she established the temple on the advice of her guru.

The temple opens at 6 am and closes at 9 pm. Jain says she has no idea why visa hopefuls have chosen this temple. People from all over India either visit the temple to make a wish or write letters.

Avin Bhardwaj wanted to go abroad with his family but could not get the visa twice. He read about the temple and made a wish. “In 15-20 days,my visa was cleared,” he says. Now,he is a regular visitor and stays in the temple during Navratri.

Another devotee says he got his US visa a few weeks after he prayed here.

Apart from visa,people also pray for health,wealth,college admission,marriage,etc. The wish is written on a white paper with a red pen,red being Hanuman’s favourite colour.

After their wishes are fulfilled,people return to thank the deity by writing their comments in a register at the temple.

Vipul Arora,a devotee,recalls how Hanuman helped him with his lawsuit. “All my wishes are fulfilled,” he says.

Vermilion and oil are applied to the deity every Tuesday. A special smooth vermilion is brought from Ahmedabad.

“I was always a follower of Hanuman. I think of him as my son and worship him in that form,” says 46-year-old Jain.

Jain has done her Hindi Honours from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. Her maternal grandfather was a priest. Apart from her,Acharya Ghanshyam Dwivedi and Pandit Santosh Dwivedi also look after the temple.

“Just have faith in God and he will fulfil all your wishes,” Jain says.
