Pradeep Dahiya appointed Gurgaon civic body commissioner days after row over waterlogging, advisor appointment
Gurgaon Municipal Corporation commissioner Ashok Garg has been posted as tthe Divisional Commissioner of Hisar.

In a late-night bureaucratic reshuffle on Monday, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya appointed Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Pradeep Dahiya as Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon. The 2013-batch officer was previously the deputy commissioner (DC) of Jhajjar district.
Dahiya has served as the deputy commissioner of Kaithal, Nuh, and Hisar districts. He was also the administrator (headquarters) of the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) in Panchkula, and has served as additional director of the Urban Estate Department.
Gurgaon civic body commissioner Ashok Garg will now be the Divisional Commissioner in Hisar, while Swapnil Ravindra Patil, additional commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad, will be the new Jhajjar DC.
Garg’s transfer comes in the backdrop of two controversies, the first being the appointment of Gurgaon Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra’s husband as an advisor on April 21. The move drew much flak, including from the Congress, and the appointment was withdrawn days later on April 29, citing a new Haryana Urban Local Bodies memo.
The second controversy arose after a few hours of unseasonal rain and thunderstorms on Friday morning led to heavy waterlogging, leaving behind flooded roads and uprooted trees. The shift in weather exposed the incomplete desilting work in several sectors, besides clogged drainage networks.
Representatives of Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWA), however, praised Garg for providing transparency in administration. “He opened the door for the common people to address their grievances,” Sector 41 RWA president Dinesh Chalia said. “RWAs in Gurgaon will miss an able officer like him,” said Puneet Pahwa, president of the association in Sector 45.
“He made civic officials realise that they are responsible, accountable and answerable. Transparency at its best. Always wanted to involve the public for the city’s betterment,” said Chaitali Mandhotra, member, Ardee City RWA.
