Parents say govt must regulate school fees

Parents from several Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) in city schools on Saturday criticised Human Resource Development minister Kapil Sibal’s comments a day before that private schools are free to fix their own fees.

Parents from several Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) in city schools on Saturday criticised Human Resource Development minister Kapil Sibal’s comments a day before that private schools are free to fix their own fees.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday said,“I have sought an appointment with him (Sibal). Let us see what guidelines are going to come.”

On Friday,Sibal had said that fees charged by private schools,or salaries they pay their teachers,cannot be regulated by the government.

A parent,Narender,said,“Fee structure in private schools is already high. We protested this last year but now that the union minister,too,seems to support the schools.”

Asked whether her government agrees with Sibal’s comments,Dikshit said,“I have only read about it in the newspapers — we will talk it out and see what comes out of it.”
