Panel set up to probe Akriti’s death

Modern School today set up a committee to probe allegations of "negligence" leading to the death of Akriti.

Under intense pressure,Modern School today set up a committee to probe allegations of “negligence” leading to the death of a girl student even as friends of the victim launched a signature camping to press for resignation of the principal.

The committee,headed by George Verghese,will probe events leading to death of Akriti Bhatia last week,Ashok Pratap Singh,Secretary of Board of Trustees of the school,said in a press statement.

The committee will also look at how the entire incident was handled and whether there was any gross negligence and submit its report in ten days.

The committee will find out whether there was any error of judgement. It will suggest measures for improvements to ensure better preparedness to deal with emergencies.

Besides this panel,the Delhi government has set up another committee to probe the matter and submit report in 15 days.

The school,which reopened today after being closed for three days,saw students launch a signature campaign demanding resignation of principal Goldie Malhotra,initiation of criminal case against her and better medical facilities in the campus.
