Over 50% IIT Delhi graduates secured campus placements this year: Survey

Students availing on-campus placement in 2023-24 had increased by about 25 per cent from 2022-23, which includes a six-fold increase in the number of PhD scholars.

More than half of graduating students from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) secured job offers through on-campus recruitment programmes, while around 10 per cent were self-employed or ventured into entrepreneurship, and 1.7 per cent joined startups, an official exit survey conducted by the institute stated Friday. Of the total graduates, 1,411 students (53.1 per cent) secured job offers via placements.

The survey, which analysed data from 2,656 students who graduated in August this year, highlighted that higher education remained a compelling option for many IIT graduates with as many as 359 students (13.5 per cent) pursuing further studies. Among them, 47 PhD students (1.8 per cent) are awaiting post-doctoral research opportunities or faculty positions. Meanwhile, 321 students (12.1 per cent) are dedicating themselves to preparing for competitive exams such as the civil services and engineering services examinations.

The total number of graduates in 2023-24 is higher than the previous year by close to 10 per cent, and the number of PhD graduates by 30 per cent.
The survey also revealed that 134 students (5 per cent) were still searching for suitable career opportunities.

“Our students are keen to explore multiple and diverse career opportunities such as startups, entrepreneurship, higher studies, post-doctoral research, civil services, and many more,” the statement issued on Friday read.

IITs started their annual campus placement interviews from December 1.
