The huge auditorium at Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College spilled over with parents and students on Sunday keen to know more about the university that opens its admissions on June 1. In the first Open Day session, the Dean of Students Welfare office of DU counselled them on making the right choice.
While students were confused when it came to choosing between good colleges and good courses, counsellors advised them to accord higher priority to the course.
It is always advisable to go for the course of ones choice because the syllabus is the same in all colleges. The concept of top-notch colleges is all hype, said a counsellor. The counsellor was stumped, however, when a student asked,If all colleges are the same, why do they have different cut-off marks?
The most popular course as usual were B Com (Hons) and Economic (Hons) though there were queries for History,English and Geography also.
Aspirant Shruti Saxena, who has scored 90 per cent, said she can get admission into Political Science (Hons),History (Hons) or Geography (Hons) in a reputed college but might not get admission to B. Com. She was seen asking the students counsellors what to do. Students who had dropped out or had got a compartment also wanted to know what to do.
Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, the Deputy Dean of Students Welfare, said such students still have a chance to get admission, provided they try.
The Dean of Students Welfare office will conduct another eight Open Days at different colleges in DU. The South Campus will have its first Open day on May 28 at SP Jain Auditorium.
