Noida gets Rs 3,000-crore infrastructure upgrade

Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday announced development projects worth Rs 3,337 crore in Noida,Greater Noida and in the Yamuna Expressway area.

Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday announced development projects worth Rs 3,337 crore in Noida,Greater Noida and in the Yamuna Expressway area.

UP CM Akhilesh Yadav unveiled a 35-mld sewage treatment plant in Sector 123,developed on the recommendation of IIT-Roorkee and will benefit 28 sectors in Noida. This will make Noida the first city in the country which can treat all its sewage.

Yadav laid the foundation for a 200-bed district hospital in Sector 39,worth Rs 424 crore; two power sub-stations that cost Rs 1,016 crore; a girls college in Hoshiarpur; and a medical college with 100 seats, which cost Rs 500 crore.

He unveiled a project to construct 7,200 affordable flats in Greater Noida and one for 4,425 flats in the jurisdiction of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority. These flats will cost around Rs 7.5 lakh each.

The chief minister also inaugurated the OPD in the medical college in Greater Noida and interacted with doctors through video-conferencing. He also laid the foundation stone for a multi-level parking and underpasses in various sectors of Noida to ease traffic flow.

Members of the Noida Enterpreneurs Association, who were present in Lucknow during the ceremony, welcomed the government’s move and said it was long overdue. “If all of these projects come to pass, then Noida will truly be on the path to development. With an improvement in the health and education sectors, more people will be drawn to the area and it will be beneficial for investment too,” Vipin Malhan, president of the NEA,said.

Akhilesh Yadav also distributed gold cards to some industrialists. These will facilitate their entry in government offices and expedite their projects. “Soon,we will have a single-window clearance system for investors. But the investment is confined to Noida and we want equal development in every part of the state,” Yadav said.

The government also announced that Noida Authority,Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority will now fund development projects in other parts of Uttar Pradesh. A corpus fund, known as infrastructure development fund (IDF),will be set up by contribution from these three authorities.

“These three authorities are making profits. They have lots of money. Their budget is nearly equal to that of the Delhi government. We will set up IDF,funded by these authorities, which will be utilised for development projects in other parts of the state,” Yadav said.

Yadav said several regions of the state were under-developed. “Land is costly in Noida but electricity is generated in other parts of the state. Sonbhadra has the distinction of producing maximum power from a single district, but it still lacks development. We need sustainable and inclusive growth. It is essential for investment and industrialisation,” he said.

Yadav said farmers’ interests will be taken care of during the development process.
