Two days after a five-year-old girl died and her father and uncle were critically injured after a speeding BMW car hit their scooter in Noida’s Sector 30, the uncle also succumbed to injuries Monday.

The deceased was identified as Raja. “He was admitted to a private hospital in Ghaziabad after the accident and died late Sunday night, while the girl’s father is currently undergoing treatment,” said the police. Raja had suffered fractures to his head, leg and hands and slipped into a coma during the treatment, according to the police.

The accident took place near Gate 3 of the Postgraduate Institute of Child Health in Sector 30 at around 12.20 am Saturday. Raja and his brother-in-law Gul Mohammad, residents of Sadarpur Khajoor colony near Sector 45, were returning home after taking Ayat, Gul’s sick daughter, to the PGI Hospital after she had complained of an earache and nausea.

The police then said the speeding BMW rammed into the two-wheeler, throwing all three passengers off the vehicle. While Ayat succumbed to injuries, the two men were admitted to a hospital in a critical condition.

The police arrested two students who were in the BMW car: Yash Sharma, 22, a resident of Sector 37, and his co-passenger, Abhishek Rawat, 22, a resident of Sector 70. They impounded the BMW car bearing a Haryana registration number and filed a case at the Sector 20 police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections of causing death by negligence and rash driving.

Meanwhile, a police officer said Gul had taken a U-turn near the hospital from the wrong side on his scooter when the BMW rammed into it.

Assistant Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar Singh had said preliminary investigation had revealed the two accused were returning from a birthday celebration when the accident occurred. The police had also said the car was found to be registered in the name of one Gagan. Yash Sharma, who deals in used cars, had borrowed it from Gagan a week ago, according to the police.
