Construction work on the runway of Noida International Airport in Jewar is almost 70% complete and is targeted to be completed by February-March 2024, said officials.
On Friday, SP Goyal, Additional Chief Secretary to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Civil Aviation Department, visited the site to inspect ongoing work.
Officials said he first inspected the work on the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower. The 30-metre-high tower has eight floors, out of which work on six floors has been completed and that on the last two floors is ongoing. Officials said construction will be completed by February 2024.
Goyal also inspected work on the terminal building. Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of the Yamuna International Airport Pvt. Ltd, which is the developer of the airport, said around 7,200 workers are working at the site currently.
Apart from this, NHAI officials said a road is being built to connect the airport to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and will be completed in time. Around 15 million safe work hours have been completed in the construction of the airport.
Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority CEO Dr Arun Vir Singh, YIAPL CEO Schnellmann, and District Magistrate Manish Verma, among others, were present with Goyal.
The site is strategically connected to NCR and Western UP: It is 72 km from IGI Airport, 40 km from Noida, and 130 km from Agra. It is also about 30 km from State Highway 22A (which connects Palwal and Aligarh) and 700 metres from the Yamuna Expressway.
In addition, the 100-metre-wide Eastern Peripheral Expressway, passing through Yamuna Expressway at the Formula One Track, connects the site to Palwal, Manesar, Ghaziabad, Bhagpat and Meerut.
