Representational/File) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Tuesday took suo motu cognizance of the death of a 34-year-old teacher following electrocution outside the New Delhi Railway Station.
Issuing notices to the Chairman, Railway Board, Ministry of Railways, Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi, and Commissioner of Police, the Commission called for a detailed report in the case within 4 weeks.
According to the Chief Public Relations Officer of the Northern Railways, the incident site was repaired and handed back to Northern Railways on Tuesday following which the streetlight’s distribution board was replaced with wiring and safety fittings.
“The Commission has observed that contents of media report (s), if true, amount to a grave violation of human rights… due to the apparent negligence of the authorities contributing to waterlogging and open electrical wires. Besides, civic and electricity authorities, Railways also seemingly failed to keep a vigil on such life-threatening lapses at New Delhi Railway Station…,” the notice states.
