Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday flagged off a fleet of 16 orange buses to connect eight Metro stations.
Launched last year in accordance with a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement to improve the citys transport system,this service now has 316 buses painted orange to differentiate them from the similar red and blue ones of the government.
Introduction of the new cluster buses will ensure comfortable,easy travel as these will connect eight Metro stations, Dikshit said at a function in Delhi Secretariat,where Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami was also present.
The Metro stations are Badarpur,Tughlakabad,Mohan Estate,Sarita Vihar,Jasola-Apollo,Pragati Maidan,Chandni Chowk and Kashmere Gate.
Dikshit said more buses would be introduced on existing routes.
Goswami said 20 more orange cluster buses would be introduced next month.
By the end of this year,the number of buses will go up to 600. The DTC fleet has 5,700 buses. We expect another 11,000 buses from private operators, he said.
The Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) spokesperson said operations on route number 460 (Badarpur Border to Minto Road terminal adjacent to New Delhi railway station Gate-II) would begin next month with 20 buses.
