Line 3 of the Delhi Metro,which connects Yamuna Bank to Dwarka Sector-9,will get a new train soon,after trial runs of the first airlifted train from Germany began on Friday morning.
The trials were carried out in non-revenue hours,between 3 and 4.10 am,between Dwarka Sector-9 and other Dwarka stations.
The trial runs will continue for a few weeks during non-revenue hours. The train will be run at different speeds to check wheel alignment; the physical checking of wheels will also be done,and emergency brakes and electronic systems on board will also be checked, Anuj Dayal,DMRC spokesperson,said.
This broad gauge train was procured for Phase-II on the main line and unlike previous trains has some special features,such as CCTVs on the interior as well as exterior of the coaches and power supply points for charging mobile phones and laptops.
The train is expected to be inducted soon into operations on Line-3,which has witnessed a 4.4 per cent rise in the number of commuters since the opening of the Yamuna Bank station on May 10, Dayal said. A comparison of the daily average from the periods May 1 to 9 and May 11 to 18 shows the number of commuters has increased from 2,99,925 to 3,13,092.
