Congress workers in Delhi held a demonstration outside the BJP headquarters on Friday, protesting the alleged irregularities in this year’s National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) exam and sought that it be cancelled.
“The malpractices in the exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) have dashed the hopes of lakhs of students. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who discusses various issues in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme, has remained silent on the NEET-UG scandal, which has shattered the aspirations of numerous youths,” Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav. “The Congress party is protesting peacefully in the interest of these students and will continue until justice is served for those affected by the NEET-UG paper leaks and malpractices,” he added.
While Yadav was arrested and later released, several Congress workers were detained.
Yadav said that malpractices like paper leaks and corruption in the NEET-UG exam jeopardise the future of the youth. He also highlighted the issue of unemployment. “The Congress party’s manifesto includes stringent measures against paper leaks to secure the future of the youth, which is one of our guarantees,” Yadav added.
He further drew parallels with the Vyapam scandal in Madhya Pradesh, an entrance examination, admission, and recruitment scam, suggesting its implications were now spreading nationwide through the NEET-UG scandal.
“Despite 40-50 deaths linked to the Vyapam scam, the probe is yet to reach a logical conclusion. The BJP treats Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh as its corruption laboratories and is now extending this malpractice across the nation. UGC-NET exam has been cancelled; why is the Union minister delaying steps to cancel the NEET exam?” Yadav questioned, demanding the scrapping of the NEET-UG exam.
