Gangster Neeraj Bawana acquitted in MCOCA case
The accused were further directed to furnish a bail bond. Bawana has more than 40 cases of murder, attempt to murder, and extortion filed against him.

A Delhi court Wednesday acquitted gangster Neeraj Bawana for offences under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), saying the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt. Bawana was arrested by the Delhi Police in 2015 and was charged, along with his associates, under the Act.
Special judge Geetanjli Goel also acquitted Bawana’s uncle, former MLA Rambeer Shokeen, his brother Pankaj Sherawat, and two others of charges under the Act. Shokeen was, however, convicted for non-appearance in response to a proclamation under Section 174-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The accused were further directed to furnish a bail bond.
The Delhi Police Special Cell had arrested Bawana in April 2015, and his uncle Shokeen in November 2016. In September 2016, Bawana was convicted of a shootout with police, and was sentenced by a city court to seven years in jail.
Bawana and nine others,
including Shokeen, were chargesheeted in 2015, with the prosecution accusing them of running an organised crime syndicate and being involved in several “heinous crimes on a continuous basis” in Delhi-NCR.
