Multi-level parking at Karol Bagh, Chawri Bazar, 15 FOBs: Delhi Traffic Police’s proposal to ease snarls
In Central Delhi, the traffic police have suggested the construction of two flyovers – at Brahma Kumari Chowk towards Anand Parbat and at Paharganj from Kamal T-point

Multi-level parking facilities at three popular markets, four flyovers, and 15 foot overbridges (FOBs) across the city — these are among the key recommendations that have been floated by the Delhi Traffic Police to decongest the Capital.
A comprehensive set of suggestions was recently shared with the agencies concerned – the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) — said officials.
“As traffic police personnel are aware of the situation on the ground, they give recommendations for short-term, mid-term, and long-term possible solutions for decongestion. The agencies concerned then take action,” said a senior PWD official, adding that these suggestions are under consideration.
The police have suggested the construction of multi-level parking facilities at three major markets — Chawri Bazar, Karol Bagh Market, and Laxmi Nagar. A recommendation has also been floated for the construction of a parking facility near the Hanuman Mandir roundabout in Katha Kunj.
The suggestion for the construction of 15 FOBs across the city was also discussed in a recent meeting held by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, said officials.
“We have formed a committee and picked up about 10 corridors for the decongestion plan. The areas flagged by the police will be covered,” said the official.
An elevated road or a tunnel on the Ring Road from Salimgarh Y point to Wazirabad and vice versa has also been advised, as the stretch sees heavy traffic jams.
“The traffic flow remains heavy on Ring Road, especially in evening peak hours… with ISBT Kashmere Gate located on this stretch route,” said the official.
The traffic police also sent a recommendation for construction of an underpass or elevated road in the Northwest and Outer parts of Delhi on the Railway track on the Bawana-Narela road, and a flyover at Dr Sahib Singh Road on Ghevra Road.
In Central Delhi, police have suggested the construction of two flyovers at Bhram Kumari Chowk to Anand Parbat and at Paharganj from Kamal T-point.
In a letter to the PWD, the Traffic Police asserted, “This is one of the vital stretches and sees heavy traffic jams throughout the day. This stretch connects important areas like Karol Bagh Market, Ajmeri Gate railway station, Paharganj area… The Paharganj traffic police is ready to extend full cooperation in providing traffic data, site assessments, and other necessary inputs to facilitate the process… Prompt attention to this matter will greatly contribute to enhancing urban mobility and public convenience.”
Further, removal of some roundabouts, a toll tax collection booth at the Crowne Plaza flyover, widening of road stretches at several locations, and removal of religious structures on roundabouts and several road stretches are among other highlights of the proposed decongestion plan.
