Inside every socialite,there seems to lurk a designer. Mumbai’s queen bee Queenie Dhody,for instance,finds her calling in precious stones and jewels. Her line Jewels by Queenie is being retailed by Notandas Jewellers in South Extension.

The former model,better known for her fashionable wardrobe and equally fashionable parties,confides that she’s been a closeted jewellery designer since 18. “I used to save the money from my modeling assignments to make my own jewellery,” says Dhody,kitted out in a fitting pink dress,as she settles into a chair at Notandas. The collection comprises bracelets,necklaces and ear-rings in semi-precious stones and starts at Rs 50,000. “A line in beaten gold will arrive shortly,” adds Dhody. “Gold is in,and I give it a contemporary spin in my collection.”

She has held several jewellery exhibitions since 2003 in the US,Dubai and Syria ,and early this year,set up her store,Jewels by Queenie at Mumbai’s upscale Peddar Road .
