Trial runs on the Anand Vihar Metro corridor started on Saturday morning, paving the way for the commissioning of Delhi Metros Line 4 (Yamuna Bank to Anand Vihar) soon. The corridor is slated to open for the public by the month-end or early next month.
The trial run covered Laxmi Nagar,Nirman Vihar and Preet Vihar. Metro officials said the trials will continue for a few weeks till the line is commissioned, which will be done only after safety clearance is received and there are enough trains for the new section.
The Anand Vihar corridor is expected to clear major traffic bottlenecks in East Delhi and carry an estimated passenger load of 1 lakh commuters per day. The Yamuna Bank-Anand Vihar line primarily passes through residential and institutional areas in East Delhi. Out of 6.17 km,3.7km of the alignment is along Vikas Marg/Vikas Marg Extension and the rest is aligned off the road, said a Metro spokesperson.
During todays trial runs, the interaction of the Metro train with physical infringements (civil structure) was checked to ensure that there was no physical blockage during the movement of the train on the track,Metro officials said. The train was run at a speed of 10 to 20 kmph as this was the first run. Officials said the speed will gradually be increased to 50 kmph and, finally, will be run at a maximum of 80 kmph.
The entire signaling system which is based upon Automatic Train Protection is also being tested during the trials. The response of the train at different speeds, braking of the train and the interconnection with Operations Control Centre will also be monitored during trials. The behaviour of the track system and Over Head Electrification will also be checked repeatedly during trials, the spokesperson said.
The elevated corridor will have five Metro stations Laxmi Nagar,Nirman Vihar,Preet Vihar,Karkardooma and Anand Vihar.
The Anand Vihar Metro Station will be integrated with the upcoming Anand Vihar Railway station and the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) to provide seamless travel to commuters.
