In the run-up to Independence Day,mock drills were conducted at four crowded places in the Capital on Wednesday to check the preparedness of security agencies.

According to the police, the first mock drill for a ‘bomb blast’ was carried out at the New Delhi Railway Station’s platform no 16 this morning by Delhi Police, the Fire department and the Railway Protection Force. During the hour-long drill, security personnel defused a mock bomb hidden at the platform.

“The New Delhi station remains a target of a likely attack by the terrorists. Such exercises help us to be in the state of readiness,” a railway official said.

Two similar exercises were conducted at the Birla Mandir,Aggarwal Sweet shop in Main Market of Rani Bagh and Greater Kailash later in the day.
