AAP MLA Jitender Tomar was ‘BA student in DU college while doing BSc in Faizabad’, says Delhi Police

In what could be further setback to former Delhi minister Jitender Singh Tomar, the Delhi Police have found that he was a regular student of BA Pass at Rajdhani College, Delhi University, from 1985 to 1988 — the same period during which he claims to have obtained a BSc degree from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Special Commissioner of Police (law and order), Deepak Mishra, on Thursday confirmed this new development in the “fake degree” probe and said the police have started investigating this aspect as well.

While Mishra refused to divulge further details, sources familiar with the investigation told The Indian Express that according to documents procured through an RTI query filed by former MLA of Tri Nagar, Nand Kishore Garg, Tomar was a regular student of BA Pass at Rajdhani College between 1985 and 1988.

“A look at the documents procured from Rajdhani College shows Jitender Singh Tomar was not a student of BSc at the college. However, records show he was a regular student of BA Pass at Rajdhani College. The reason behind his leaving the college in unclear from the available records,” a police source said.

The photocopies of educational documents Tomar had submitted at the Bar Council in 2011 included a BSc degree from K S Saket College, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avad University in Faizabad. He claims to have done the course during 1985 to 1988.

Sources further said a team of three officers from the South district was sent to Rajdhani College, where it came to know that Tomar regularly attended classes in English, Hindi, Economics and History at the college until 1987. He was also reportedly took part in student politics. However, he failed in some subjects and dropped out after 1987.
