‘Mission Maalamal’: Cousins who killed 2 women created a WhatsApp group to hatch their plan

On May 31, the bodies of Rajrani (64) and her daughter Ginni (39) were found at their Krishna Nagar home. DCP (Sha-hdara) Rohit Meena said, “The accused were influenced by several crime series; they had even contacted two advocates to get legal advice regarding the crime and punishment involved. They were planning this for weeks and only spoke to each other on WhatsApp calls to evade suspicion.”

During investigation, police said the security guard at the flat as well as CCTV footage confirmed Kishan was the last person to enter the victims’ house. “Kishan fled from his home after seeing news about the bodies being discovered. Over 300 CCTVs were scanned and raids were conducted in five places — Gonda, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Delhi and Noida,” added Meena.

Police said the duo fled to UP and were planning to go to Bihar and then Assam. They were frequently changing hideouts and even switched off their phones. “We found Ankit was in Timarpur and going to board a bus. A team was sent and he was arrested. Similarly, Kishan’s movement was traced to Lucknow but he came to Delhi. We arrested him from Kanti Nagar,” said an officer.

The sequence

During questioning, police said Kishan revealed he worked as a marketing manager for a medical firm and later applied for a tutor’s job. He met Rajrani and offered to teach Ginni, who was autistic, about computers.

“He started the tutoring job two months ago and went to the victims’ house regularly. He even helped Rajrani with house hunting during which she shared her bank account details. It was then that he found she had Rs 50 lakh in her account and decided to rob her,” added the officer.

As per police, Kishan initially planned to hack into the bank account and steal the money but failed. “Around May 15-17, Kishan called Ankit and told him about the money. The cousins made a plan and called it ‘Mission Maalamal’. Ankit came to Delhi from Assam and helped Kishan conduct a recce of the house and area. They bought two knives from Laxmi Nagar for the murder,” said DCP Meena.

Police said Kishan also introduced Ankit to the deceased on the pretext of helping Ginni with her speech therapy.

On the day of the incident, the accused arrived around 10 pm and the victim let them in. Police said they then allegedly killed Ginni in the kitchen and Rajrani in the hall. Police said they cleaned the bloodstains before decamping with cash, an idol and jewellery.
Police recovered two MacBooks, a Dell laptop, three iPhones and other items stolen from the victim’s house.
