The Ghaziabad police have recovered the body of a 28-year-old man in a car abandoned along NH 24, near Dasna in Ghaziabad. The man had allegedly been kidnapped from his village in Greater Noida on Saturday.
The police said the deceased has been identified as Umesh Nagar. He is the younger brother of the village headman of Dankaur. “He was kidnapped and his family had lodged a case of abduction. But no ransom demand was made,” a senior police officer said.
The police said his body was found in a Hyundai Verna car that was abandoned by NH 24. The police said the car belonged to Nagar. “The car was found there by commuters. When they looked inside, they saw a body and called the police. It came to our notice that he was the man who had been kidnapped in Greater Noida,” the officer said.
The police said Nagar had gone out with his wife on Saturday. “He had dropped her to Barola in Noida and gone to go meet someone he knew. We don’t yet know who that person was. We are trying to trace the person,” the officer said.
Ghaziabad police said Nagar had been shot from a close range and the bullet injury was the cause of death. However, the big question facing the investigation is Nagar’s whereabouts during the last 24 hours preceding his body’s discovery. “The spot where the car was found is very public. It’s impossible for the car to have been there for the last day. It’s likely that the car was dumped there minutes preceding the discovery of the body,” the officer said.
The police said that the murder could be a case of kidnapping gone wrong or an act motivated by personal enmity.
