Mocha Bar at Nehru Place has opened its gates to amateur artists trying their hand at various art forms storytelling,stand-up comedy, musicas part of Shaken and Stirred the open mic presented by stand-up comedian Papa CJ. I have been performing for over six years and I found that while established artists have places to perform, the newer talent doesnt quite get a chance to showcase their talent at public forums. Open-mic gives amateurs an opportunity to showcase their talent in front of an audience, even if it means making a fool of themselves, says Papa CJ,who was the finalist on NBCs Last Comic Standing last year.
With a total of 12 acts, the night began with a couple of young boys trying their hand at comedy, which failed to create any buzz, and went on to a storyteller who got the audiences attention with his blatant and brash humour. Making the evening interactive, three red cards were handed to the audience raising the card would get the artist off the stage. The first evening wasnt a hit,but Papa CJ hopes it will get better with time; an open-mic night will be hosted once a month. The night is open to anyone with any kind of talent. It would be great to give them their five minutes of fame, he says. The next open mic night will be held on July 12
