The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday slapped a notice on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for violating the Delhi Outdoor Advertisement Policy (DOAP),as approved by the Supreme Court. According to the civic body, huge advertisement panels installed on DMRCs overhead bridges do not comply with a technical parameter that restricts the size of such panels.
This is the second time in the past 15 days that the MCD has sent a notice to the DMRC for violation of the advertisement policy. Notices have been sent to the advertisers as well.
In the latest one,the MCD has pointed out 11 locations in Delhi Shadipur Depot,Pul Bangash,ISBT and Model Town among others where the advertisement panels installed are bigger than the stipulated size. While the MCD allows boards that are 6X3 sq m,the DMRC has allowed advertisement panels of upto 18X3 sq m.
The notice,a copy of which is with Newsline, adds that the Delhi Metro has installed advertisement panels bigger than the allowed size even on its foot overbridges at the Lajpat Nagar and Kailash Colony Metro stations. The MCD has asked the DMRC to get the panels removed within 15 days.
The MCD had sent a notice to DMRC on January 28,stating that the advertisements put up on unipoles at Metro stations violate the advertisement policy as the poles are located within 75 metres of a traffic light/road crossing. There are certain technical guidelines for advertisements hoardings in the city and the DMRC has been violating them. It has taken no action on the notice sent in January either, a senior MCD official said.
The clash between the MCD and the Delhi Metro over the hoardings has been going on for a while now. The dispute resulted in a legal battle in the High Court,in which a stay order was passed. Interim relief was given to DMRC on the condition that it follow the technical parameters of advertisement policy. The said notices have also accused the DMRC for violating the High Court orders.
