Meat shops must be shut during Navratri, demands Delhi BJP MLA Ravinder Negi
The Chaitra Navratri, dedicated to Goddess Durga, will begin on March 30 and conclude on April 6.

BJP Patparganj MLA Ravinder Singh Negi demanded the closure of meat shops during the upcoming Navratri festival. He said even if the directive is not enforced across Delhi, he will try to ensure shops remain closed in his constituency.
“I had run a drive for meat shops which used to be open on Tuesday in front of temples in my area, and now the shops are closed on Tuesday… Navratri comes twice a year, I request all businessmen to keep meat shops closed on Tuesday… This is a request that no meat shop should be opened on Navratri, especially those in front of temples,” said Negi.
He also said he has written to the DM and the MCD commissioner in this regard.
Negi, a former MCD councillor from the Vinod Nagar ward, has been in the news for similar reasons. In a series of videos he had uploaded earlier on his social media handles, he is seen telling Hindu street vendors to put up saffron flags on vending carts. He is also seen visiting butcher shops before festivals, demanding they be closed to respect the religious sentiments of Hindus.
The Chaitra Navratri, dedicated to Goddess Durga, will begin on March 30 and conclude on April 6.
The festival is going to coincide with Eid, which is expected to be celebrated on either March 31 or April 1.
Commenting on this, Negi said, “It is a democratic country, everyone celebrates festivals, but this is Meethi Eid, in this you should feed people Seviyan, there is a time for Bakra-Eid, but now the shops should be closed.” He said the issue will be raised in the Assembly at the appropriate time.
