MCG disconnects 14 illegal sewer lines in Gurgaon
The illegal sewer connections have been contributing to the persistent sewer overflow issue in Rajendra Park, the Gurgaon civic body said.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Friday took stringent action against illegal sewer connections that have been contributing to the persistent sewer overflow issue in Rajendra Park. The civic body disconnected 14 unauthorised connections linked to the main sewer line, which were found to be adding undue pressure on the system.
The disconnected connections belong to residential societies and industrial units, including Zara Awas Society, Sheetla Polymers, Star One Packaging, Nipun Engineering Tools, AB Polymers, JPM Automobiles Ltd, Pasco, Toyota, Mahindra DAMM, CSR Fitness, Pasco Sanjay, Tata Motors (ZX), KM Motors, and AS Chemicals.
Additionally, the police have registered cases against India Bulls and Hero Homes for violating sewerage regulations, a spokesperson said.
Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya stated that the crackdown on illegal connections will continue, with legal action and fines imposed under relevant regulations.
“The civic body is committed to maintaining sanitation, drainage, and public health standards, with no tolerance for violations”, the spokesperson added.
With the monsoon arriving, the civic body is undertaking extensive desilting of main sewer lines, including a 900-mm diameter primary line and a 600-mm diameter secondary line, to clear sludge and debris causing blockages.
To provide immediate relief to residents, the MCG has deployed tractor-mounted pumps and diesel engine pumps to divert sewer water into alternative lines. Suction tankers are also being used to remove overflow water from affected areas, minimising inconvenience to locals, the spokesperson stated.
The sewer overflow problem is understood to have been aggravated by unauthorised connections from residential societies and industrial units.
Executive Engineer Sunder Shyoran stated that the sewer overflow issue will be permanently resolved once the desilting process is complete. The MCG is prioritising public welfare, with officials conducting regular inspections and seeking community cooperation to ensure swift progress, he added.
Gurgaon sees major traffic congestion, waterlogging as monsoon’s first heavy showers lash city
The development comes a day after major roads in Gurgaon were left congested after heavy showers that began at 7 pm on Wednesday led to waterlogging across the city. The residents said this was an issue they faced during the first downpour every monsoon.
The district administration said the city received 133 mm of rainfall till 8 am on Thursday. Of this, 103 mm of rainfall was received between 7.30 pm and 9 pm on Wednesday.
This year, the monsoon arrived in Gurgaon on June 29.
The downpour did not spare posh areas such as Golf Course Road, which saw knee-deep waterlogging and traffic snarls that lasted at least an hour along the Rapid Metro stretch. Roads outside prominent private hospitals like Medanta, Artemis, and Fortis also saw similar waterlogging for hours. In parts of Sector 14 and Sushant Lok, the water entered ground-floor houses.
