A 40-year-old man died of electrocution in West Delhi’s Kirti Nagar on Sunday night, police said. Pawan Yadav, a mechanic, was on his way home when at Kesar T-point he slipped on some mud that had accumulated on the road and held an electric pole for support, police said.

Yadav, who felt unconscious, was rushed to Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

While BSES officials said that Kirti Nagar does not fall under their jurisdiction, Tata Power officials refused to take responsibility for the incident.

“In response to the unfortunate electrocution incident at Kirti Nagar, a dedicated team from Tata Power-DDL visited the site to assess the situation and take necessary actions. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the pole involved is an iron streetlight pole which is not maintained by Tata Power-DDL. We remain committed to ensuring the highest safety standards across our distribution network,” said a Tata Power spokesperson.
