The 20-year-old accused, identified as Shivam Yadav, has been arrested, they said.
“On the night intervening August 8 and 9, a firing incident was reported at Nand Nagri police station. Upon reaching the spot, the police team found that a man, later identified as Kapil, had been shot by another who fled the scene after the incident. The man was taken to GTB Hospital, where he was declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctors,” DCP (North East) Ashish Mishra said.
The deceased was friends with Shivam’s sister, a police officer said, adding that he had allegedly also passed a remark on the accused’s wife. Enraged, the accused killed Kapil, police said.
“On Friday night, Kapil was at a tailor’s shop when Shivam arrived. They got engaged in a conversation. Soon after, Shivam pulled out a gun, and shot Kapil on the forehead,” an officer said.
Kapil, police said, lived in Nand Nagri’s C block with his family, and repaired ACs for a living. Kapil was rushed to the hospital by his brothers.
Police analysed the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area and subsequently arrested Shivam, also an AC mechanic from Nand Nagri.
“Shivam Yadav was arrested by a police team, led by Nand Nagri SHO,” DCP Mishra said.
“A case under Section 103(1) of the BNS and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act was registered at Nand Nagri police station. Senior officers examined the crime scene, and forensic teams inspected the spot and collected evidence,” DCP Mishra said.
Kapil is survived by his mother, three brothers and two sisters, police said, adding that his father Suresh passed away around four months back.
